Winter StorageBy remodeling our greenhouse, we have expanded and improved our winter storage facilities. Trees that require winter dormancy are stored in a climate-controlled cold frame that is kept at a steady 45 percent humidity and 35 degrees Fahrenheit; thus allowing our trees to remain dormant without freezing their roots. This is accomplished via passive solar heat provided by several skylights combined with thermostatically controlled vented louvers that draw warm air from our workshop area on an as needed basis. The cold frame is alo surrounded on all sides with patio-type doors that allow us to keep it cool during those critical late winter/early spring weeks and prevent trees from coming out of dormancy too soon for our harsh winters and often frigid springs. We winter our indoor/tropical varieties in a climate-controlled greenhouse that provides 75 degree temps at 50 to 60 percent humidity with supplemental lighting, circulating fans, a monitoring system that will alert us by phone in th event of a problem and emergency backup heating. We believe we have the finest winter storage facility for the best rates in the upper Midwest. All of our pricing is based on a per tree basis for the entire winter season. Typically, you should bring your bonsai trees in for storage sometime during the month of October and pick up your tree by May 1st, depending on the weather. 2005 Cold Frame Storage rates (per tree): Tropical/Indoor room rates are double cold frame rates. Trees picked up after May 15, 2006, will incur additional charges. NOTE: Quoted prices are for storage only. Additional charges will apply for pruning, shaping, wiring, repotting, and workshops.
