Bonsai Roots

The goal here is to keep enough roots to support the surface growth, branches and foliage. Cutting back the roots from time to time is necessary. A "root bound" tree can not absorb water and nutrients properly and will eventually die. Techniques vary as root structures develop. Additional planting, root thinning, and trimming techniques can have dramatic effects on the "look of your tree". Exact procedures and diagrams to assist you are found in our bonsai booklet.
